Penn Museum: Global Guides Program
What better way to learn about the culture of another place than to hear first-hand from someone who grew up there? Through the Global Guides Program, the Penn Museum offers gallery tours that share historical information about the artifacts on display, combined with personal experiences and stories to interpret objects from their countries of origin. Join B. PHL for a special tour of the Africa Galleries with Penn Museum Global Guide, Clay Katongo. Born and raised in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Katongo is acquainted with many African traditions and religions, and graciously shares his original DRC and Angolan culture, heritage, tradition, and language. During this tour, you’ll explore the richness of Africa’s artistic creativity, spiritual practices, trade and currency, and musical traditions. He’ll share stories about learning from others in his native Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and during his life in the Philadelphia area.
